Withholding tax explained for content creators, with a worked example, a checklist and the mistakes to avoid.

Why this matters for content creators

Content creators earn from ads, sponsorships and sales across platforms, and each stream can be taxed.

Worked example

Here is the calculation with sample figures. Change any number in the Withholding Tax Calculator to run your own.

Worked example: Withholding Tax Calculator

Withholding tax: how it works

Withholding tax is deducted at source before income reaches you, for example on cross-border dividends, interest or contractor payments.

Treaties can reduce the rate, and the tax withheld can often be credited against your own liability.

A second example with larger figures

Scaling the inputs up shows how the result moves. Percentages stay the same, so the tax grows in proportion to the amount it is applied to.
