Pakistan GST calculation: from net price to gross price
A step-by-step method for adding 18% GST to any net price in Pakistan, with a ready-made table of common amounts.
Key facts
| Place | Pakistan |
|---|---|
| Tax | GST |
| Standard rate on file | 18% |
| Multiply net price by | 1.18 |
| Tax share of a gross price | 15.25% |
| Currency | PKR |
The three-step method
Start with the net price, the amount before tax. Multiply it by 0.18 to get the GST. Add that tax to the net price, or simply multiply the net price by 1.18 in one step. The result is the gross price your customer pays.
Worked example
Here is the calculation with sample figures. Change any number in the Pakistan GST Calculator to run your own.
| Amount | PKR200.00 |
| Tax rate (%) | 18% |
| Tax | PKR36.00 |
|---|---|
| Total | PKR236.00 |
Rounding: line by line or on the total?
If an invoice has several lines, calculating tax per line and then adding can produce a total that differs by a cent or two from calculating tax on the invoice total. Pick one method, apply it consistently, and check what your local rules expect. Accounting software in Pakistan usually lets you choose.
When the price already includes tax
Retail prices shown to consumers often already include GST. In that case you are not adding tax but extracting it, which needs a different formula. The reverse calculator handles that case.

| North Macedonia | 18% | same |
| Norway | 25% | higher |
| Oman | 5% | lower |

Key terms
- Deduction
- An amount subtracted from taxable income. It saves tax equal to the deduction times your marginal rate.
- Gross amount
- The amount after tax is added, which is usually what a consumer pays.
- Marginal rate
- The rate applied to the next unit of income. It decides how much of a raise or a deduction you keep.
- Taxable income
- Income left after allowances and deductions, on which the tax rates are applied.
- Zero rate
- A rate of 0% on a taxable supply. Unlike an exemption, the seller can usually still reclaim tax on costs.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Adding 18% to a price that already includes tax.
- Mixing up the tax amount and the gross price on quotes.
- Using an outdated rate after a rate change.

Frequently asked questions
What number do I multiply by to add GST in Pakistan?
Multiply the net price by 1.18. That gives the price including 18% GST.
Is GST added before or after a discount?
Normally after: the discount reduces the taxable amount first, and tax is charged on what the customer actually pays.
